I think that this issue of whether to use high-paying keywords is a key one (sorry!) and a tricky one. It is difficult, as you say, to sustain your own interest if the keywords are in a subject you yourself are not interested in. Without this I suspect it might be difficult to succeed. On the other hand, if your keyword Adsense ads only bring in pennies, then you will only make pennies :-) UNLESS you have massive amounts of traffic. Personally my strategy is not to consider Adsense ads as a primary source of income, but to consider them a way of bolstering income from a site that is already getting income either from an affiliate program or affiliate programs, or from your own product or service. That said, there are many ways to spin the Adsense bottle.
